A green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, and other contraband, was found by a city worker at Greatest General Memorial Park on November 5.

A report by Thomaston Police Corporal Chester Sledge states that he was dispatched to the park about 10 p.m. after City of Thomaston employee Alphonso Jordan discovered the items while cleaning a drain at the park.

Found were a plastic bag containing two large bags of tobacco, a plastic bag with rolling papers and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, and a plastic bag with tobacco dip, two pornographic magazines, and two green pills in it. The items were taken to the Police Department and an investigation is underway.

A 20-year-old man from Gay is facing numerous charges after leading Upson County Sheriff’s Deputies on a vehicular chase on Nov. 11.

According to a report by Deputy Tim Salter, about 7:15 p.m. that evening he was leaving a call on Robin Street east of Thomaston when he heard a loud motor that sounded like a dirt bike or four-wheeler coming from Michael Street. Riding over to investigate, he was Stevens Street when a resident out in his yard shouted that the person he was looking for was going down Kristi Street. Dep. Salter went down Kristi Street, turned back onto Michael Street, and saw a person wearing a black jumpsuit and brown boots, with a black backpack, riding a red and white Honda dirt bike in the road. The biker turned onto Tom McKinley Road at a high rate of speed, and Salter gave chase.

The chase centered around that neighborhood, with the rider turning onto Michael Street, Tom McKinley, Stevens, Kristi, Michael, and finally Tom McKinley again before heading east toward Trice Cemetery Road. Near the end of the road, the biker cut left into a field, then back out onto Trice Cemetery Road. Salter lost sight of the biker and called for assistance. Other units of the Sheriff’s Department and Georgia State Patrol joined in. Trooper McIntyre spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description behind Walthall Oil at the corner of Highway 36 and Trice Cemetery Road and stopped him. The suspect, identified as Decky Levelle Holloway of Gay, allegedly admitted to riding the dirt bike. The motorcycle was found a short time later behind an 18-wheeler at the rear of Walthall Road.

Holloway was arrested and transported to the Upson County Jail. He is facing charges of Fleeing and Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, Violating the Operation Restrictions for Off Road Vehicles, and two counts of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
