Yatesville Market Day, Chitlin’ Festival coming soon

Staff report

October will be “Yatestober,” with Yatesville the place to be. The second monthly Market Day is this Saturday, Oct. 13, and the 30th Annual Chitlin’ Hoedown is on Oct. 27, which this year will be a one day event.

Market Day

Market Day promises to be an event for everyone, with the last of the fall vegetables available for sale, along with plenty of arts and crafts. Visitors are invited to stroll through the vendor booths displaying and selling plants, art, yard sale items, crafts and sample some of Maw Maw’s Fried Apple Pies and other tasty offerings. Then sit a spell in the tented space and listen to the sounds of the Parking Lot Pickers, a gathering of local musicians invited to bring their instruments and jam. For those who want to do more than tap your feet to the music, bring your instrument and join the fun.

“We envision a monthly Market Day that’s really a community event, one that showcases our city, brings our citizens together and invites visitors to enjoy a day of music, food, shopping and fun,” says Yatesville Mayor Cecil Moncrief. “Yatesville is a little town with a big personality. The people of Yatesville like to get together and enjoy each other’s company and we love to welcome visitors, and Market Day is a great opportunity for both.”

Sponsored by the City of Yatesville, the event will be held in downtown Yatesville behind Mulling Grocery. This is the final Market Day event before winter hibernation sets in, then Market Day will be back up and running strong the second Saturday of each month, beginning in April 2013.

Vendors are still wanted for Market Day. Sell your fresh vegetables, art, yard sale items and arts and crafts, — even your homemade artisan breads or hand-ground cornmeal during Yatesville Market Day. Reserve your booth by contacting Market committee members, Phyl M. Gatlin at 706-975-0755 or Denita Hall at 706-472-3782. The price is $10 for a 10x10 space. This is a great opportunity to showcase your talents and earn a little extra cash at a fun community event.

Chitlin’ Hoedown

The 30th Annual Chitlin’ Hoedown will be a one day event on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Yatesville. There will be arts & crafts, BBQ chicken, home cooking, a parade, entertainment provided by Sylvia Winters, The Watkins Family, Due South, and The Junkshun, and of course, plenty of chitlins!

There is no admission charge. The arts & crafts booths open at 10 a.m., and food serving starts at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at 1 p.m., and entertainment will be provided throughout the day. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy this big one day event filled with arts & crafts, entertainment, good food, and good folks.
