Parking fee will be charged at Sprewell Bluff starting Saturday

Springtime is officially here and hopefully the spring weather will soon follow, making weekends spent at a park a favorite family activity. However beginning immediately, there is one change at the newest park to fall under Upson County’s jurisdiction, with a parking fee now being charged at Sprewell Bluff. The county took over operational control of the park from the state in January of this year and is using the collections from the parking fee to help fund maintenance, repairs and improvements of the park.

The parking fee is on the honor system with collection boxes set up on the premises and the county will be accepting cash or checks for the designated amount made payable to Upson County/Sprewell Bluff. The boxes will also dispense a park pass to be hung on the rear view mirror of vehicles to show that the fee has been paid with the correct day punched out. A fee of $3 is charged for cars, trucks and minivans capable of seating 12 passengers or less; vans which seat 13-20 people will be charged $20 and buses with seating for 30 or more will be charged $50.

For those who visit the park on a regular basis annual park passes are available. The year long pass becomes active on the day it is purchased and remains valid until that day the next year. Passes for cars, trucks and minivans are $20, vans seating 13-20 are $50 and busses seating 30 or more are $250. A 50 percent discount is available for seniors ages 62 and older. Annual park passes can be purchased in the Board of Commissioners office located in the Upson County Government Complex or by calling 706-647-7012.
