Friends and co-workers of retiring Upson County Health Department Nurse Manager Lynn Vickers gave her a retirement party last Friday. Vickers has worked at the Upson County Health Department for 30 years, joining the department on September 1, 1982.
Vickers said her last day at work was bittersweet.
“I’m sad, but yet I’m excited about being retired,” Vickers said, “because I’ve had 30 years to work, and now I can go and enjoy free time. But I’m excited. We have a trip planned to Alaska, and it will be nice just having time to do what I want to do. My husband says my ‘honey do’ list is going to get longer now that I’m at home.”
While Nurse Manager at the Health Department, Vickers was active with schools in Upson County and with the Gilmore Center, and was responsible for implementing the child car seat program in the county. In addition, she was instrumental in obtaining a grant to build a new Health Department building in 2000.
Vickers did add that she plans to stay active in the community. She is currently serving as chairwoman of the Family, Youth, and Children’s Alliance (FYCA) and is a board member of Promise Place.
Upson County Commission Chairman Maurice Raines presented Vickers with a proclamation in her honor naming June 29, 2012 as Lynn Vickers Day.
