Alleged arsonist released on $150,000 bond

Travis Leroy Ball, 46, of Warner Robins, the alleged serial arsonist accused of setting numerous house fires in Upson and Lamar counties, was released from the Upson County Jail on Feb. 19 on a $150,000 cash bond.

Ball was arrested in Barnesville on Jan. 8, following a traffic stop, and charged with arson related to numerous fires in the county. He posted a $20,000 cash bond in Lamar County on Jan. 18 and was released there, but was immediately re-arrested and transported to the Upson County Jail, facing four counts of arson here.

Two counts are for a mobile home located on Crest Highway, where someone tried to set the structure on fire Dec. 28, but the fire failed to catch and just damaged some carpet and a wall in the back of the house. On Jan. 7, the vacant house on Crest Highway was set on fire again, and this time it burned to the ground.

The third and fourth fires also occurred Jan. 7 and were relatively close to each other. A structure fire at 135 Pickard Road was called in, and when deputies and firefighters arrived, they found a vacant doublewide trailer situated far off the road fully engulfed in flames. A volunteer with Northside VFD was on his way down Burkett Road to assist at the Pickard Road fire when he saw flames and smoke coming out of one side of a brick home at 402 Burkett Road. That brick house, also vacant, suffered heavy fire damage.
