The flags at the Upson County Courthouse and other government buildings flew at half-staff Tuesday in honor of “Peace Officers Memorial Day.” By joint resolution, the United States Congress authorized the President of the United States to designate May 15 of each year as “Peace Officers Memorial Day” and the week in which it falls as “Police Week.” Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation on May 14, 2012 “in honor and as a mark of respect for the officers who serve, and in memory of the officers who have fallen,” for flags to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds on May 15, 2012.
