The Thomaston Sertoma Club’s annual Rob Bennett Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, April 12. 2013, at Raintree Golf Club in Thomaston, and for the first time, will feature a $10,000 Cash Hole-In-One Contest sponsored by Thomaston Ford.
“This is away from the norm,” said Steve Brodie, Tournament Chairman. “Usually an item such as a car or truck or boat is featured, but we thought putting up $10,000 cash would create a lot of excitement. The winner would pay no sales tax or title fee, and not have to worry about trying to sell a vehicle if they win. They will just walk away with a pocket full of cash… after the IRS gets their slice.”
In addition to the Hole-In-One Contest, prizes will be awarded for Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Low Gross, and Low Net. The first place team will win $500, second place will win $200, and third place will win $100.
The play will be captain’s choice format, with entry fees being $75 per player or $300 per team. Spots are still open and entry forms can be picked up at all local Thomaston banks, plus United Bank in Zebulon, at Raintree Golf Club in Thomaston, and The Cedars Golf Club and Pines Golf Club in Zebulon. Early bird registration prizes are available for registrations received by April 5.
Brunch will be served at 9:30 a.m., with a 1st Tee Program at 10:30 a.m., and shotgun start at 11 a.m. On-course beverages will be provided, and the 19th Tee will have food and refreshments after the tournament. Event t-shirts will also be available for purchase at the course.
A portion of the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to The Boy Scouts of America Troop 25 in memory of Rob Bennett, a portion to the Thomaston Sertoma Speech and Hearing Scholarship, and the remaining proceeds will be used for other local civic endeavors.
