Funeral services were held on November 23, 2012 for Rev. L.R. Hickmon at the Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Morrow, Georgia.
Rev. Hickmon, the son of the late Arthur and Lena Hickmon, was born on August 4, 1933 in Thomaston, Georgia and transitioned to his eternal home on November 19, 2012. He was educated in the Upson County School System and became a contributing member of the community.
In 1964, he accepted his call to the ministry and was blessed to be able to share his love of God and teach the Word of God to others. His first pastoral duty was at the Wilderness Baptist Church in Thomaston. He later pastored the following churches: Pineview Baptist Church, Roberta, Ga.; Orange Grove Baptist Church, Culloden, Ga.; Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Woodstock, Ga.; and Zion Baptist Church, Canton, Ga.
He pastored Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Zion Baptist Church simultaneously. Rev. Hickmon became the full-time Senior Pastor of Zion Baptist Church in 1974, where he served in that capacity for 38 blessed years until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as six siblings: Gaynelle Walker, Grace Butts, Louise McFarlin, James (Boy) Hickmon, John Thomas (J.T.) Hickman and Ronnie Pharr.
Rev. Hickmon leaves loving memories with his wife, Rozena Furlow Hickmon; sons, James (Jannis) Hickmon, Bobby Hickmon, and Rev. Danny (Faye) Hickman; ten granddaughters: Erica, MeShanda, Shawnte, Alysia, Natalie, Marguerite, Erin, Daphne, Brittany and Taylor; 13 great-grandchildren; two devoted daughters-in-law, Janice Hickmon and Carmen Hickmon. He is also survived by sisters Clonnie Mae Reeves of Thomaston, Carolyn Ellison, Pennie Pharr and Cherry Ward all of the Metro Atlanta area. Sisters-in-law, Mamie Patterson, Geraldine Chaney, Doris Bolden and Annie Lee Furlow. One brother-in-law, Harrison Furlow. There is also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will truly miss Rev. Hickmon.
