Funeral services for Mr. Jule Felton Blackston, 88, formerly of Barnesville Highway, were held Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bud Gleaton officiating. Burial followed in The Rock Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Blackston died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Riverside Nursing Care Center.

Coggins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Blackston was born on Jan. 17, 1918, in Taylor County, Ga., to the late John Franklin and Ida Currington Blackston. He worked for over 15 years at B.F. Goodrich, and also worked for Gene Gilbert Oil and Gibson General Gas. Mr. Blackston was a retired farmer. His last employment was with the Thomaston-Upson County School System as a school bus driver, affectionately known to his students at “Uncle Felton.” He was a member of The Rock Baptist Church, The East Thomaston Lodge #175, and Thomaston Lodge #27 of the F&AM, where he was a Master Mason and member for over 51 years. Mr. Blackston was also an organizing member of The Rock Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Charis Lucille Russell Blackston.

Survivors include his son, Mr. Rusty (Marlane) Blackston of The Rock; daughters, Mrs. Clarice (Mose) Thompson and Mrs. Vera (Fred) Ellington, all of Thomaston; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
