Former Upson-Lee standout Juantez Hartsfield recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at the University of West Alabama. Hartsfield will transfer to the school in Livingston, Ala., after playing two stellar years at West Hill Community College in Coalinga, Cal. The 6’3”, 280 pound defensive lineman is expected to be an anchor of the Tigers’ defense. West Alabama is a member of the Gulf Coast Conference. Other teams in the conference include Valdosta State University, University of West Georgia, University of West Florida, University of Alabama-Huntsville, Christian Brothers University (Tenn.), Delta State University, University of North Alabama, Shorter University (Rome, Ga.), and Union University (Tenn.). Two new schools, Florida Tech and Lee University (Tenn.) will be joining the conference this season. Last season UWA finished with a 9-4 record, losing to Valdosta State University in the second round of the playoffs.
