The Eagles Landing boy’s team entered their match up with the Knights as the No. 1 ranked team in the state. However, the Eagles Landing girl’s team entered their game with Upson-Lee winless on the season.

That elusive first win for the Lady Golden Eagles came at the expense of the Lady Knights. A lackluster start to the begining of the game led to a 46-36 defeat for the Lady Knights.

“We did not play well at all, especially defensively,” said Lady Knights head coach Bart Phillips. “I thought our effort and intensity was below par, and sometimes that happens throughout the season. We were not getting back in transition defensively, gave too many open looks at the basket, and we didn’t rebound. We have to play at a higher level and bounce back this weekend.”

Both teams were very cold offensively to start the game, which appeared pretty sloppy throughout all four quarters. Eagles Landing only scored eight points in the first quarter. Unfortunately for Upson-Lee, they only scored five.

Upson-Lee’s Kiashona Carter, who led the Lady Knights with 21 points in a loss to Taylor County last weekend, scored all five points for the Knights in the first quarter and finished with a team high 15 points in Tuesday night’s game. No other player for Upson-Lee scored more than five points.

“Kiashona is doing everything we are asking her to do,” said Phillips. “She has put two good games back to back, but if just one player is playing and the rest are not, it doesn’t help ouor team very much. We need to have other members of our team step up.”

The Lady Knights continued to struggle for much of the game, although they did make a run in the fourth quarter. The Lady Knights outscored Eagles Landing 13-8 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enoughh, as Eagles Landing earned their first victory of the season with a 46-36 victory over the Lady Knights.

The Lady Knights will travel to Hampton tonight, where they will face a tough Lady Bulldog team from Dutchtown. Tip off for tonight’s game is slated for 7 p.m. The Lady Knights will host the undefeated Lady Bulldogs from Mary Persons tomorrow night.

On a side note, the Knights and Lady Knights will participate in the Lamar County Christmas Classic once again this season. The four teams in the tournament are Upson-Lee, Lamar County, Griffin, and Pike County. The Lady Knights first game in the tournament will be on Friday, Dec. 21. Upson-Lee will face Lamar County at 7 p.m.
