CARTERSVILLE - Major (RET) Charles Boyers, 61, of Cartersville, died January 21, 2013.

Born March 10, 1951 in Atlanta, he was a son of the late James and Luella Head Boyers.

From an early age he was a faithful member of the Thomaston First United Methodist Church. He started in ROTC at R.E. Lee High School and continued with his military aspirations at North Georgia College, where he met his future wife. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. This was the beginning of a 20-year military career that took his family all over the world. He was a veteran of both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.

Charles is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and loved his Georgia Bulldogs. He was a member of the Lions Club, American Legion and the United States Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Judy Ingram Boyers; daughter and son in law, Jennifer Ann and John Appling, of Cartersville; son and daughter in law, Charles Allen Boyers, Jr. and wife Kalin, of Cartersville; grandchildren, Sophie Noel Boyers and Brice Allen Boyers, and a brother, James Edward Boyers, Jr., of Columbus, Ga.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Morgan and Rev. John Whatley officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery with full military rites observed.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 till 7 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013.
