Northside Volunteer Fire Dept. and Upson EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident Wednesday around 4:50 p.m. The accident occurred on Hannah’s Mill Road in the Rose Hill Drive area when an older model Oldsmobile left the road during a heavy rain and careened into a creek, hitting a concrete abutment. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, but water in the creek was not high enough to cause any safety concerns. Firefighters and EMS assisted the victim in exiting the vehicle and Upson EMS transported the patient to Upson Regional Medical Center. In the upper photo, firefighters wait for the ambulance to arrive before assisting the driver from the car. In the lower photo, emergency personnel assess the scene after the driver was taken to the ambulance. Upson County EMA Director Martha Anne McCarty reported Thursday morning that they are not aware of any other major damage from the storms that moved through Upson County Wednesday afternoon. McCarty said some straight line winds knocked trees down on Jeff Davis Road before the storm came through, but the tornado reportedly seen in the air never developed into anything on the ground. Students who ride buses home from public schools in Upson County were held at the schools until all the storm warnings had ended.
