After many weeks of hard work, the Upson County Board of Commissioners have completed the budget for 2013 and will have a public hearing on the matter Wednesday, December 12 at 4 p.m. in the City/County meeting room in the Government Complex. The proposed budget for next year is set at $13,615,816 and the board will consider adoption of the figure during a called meeting held on Wednesday, December 19 at 11 a.m.
There is a 1.6 percent increase in the budget for 2013 compared to that of 2012 ($13,594,500), for two reasons. The first being the commissioners approved a 2.5 percent pay increase for all full-time county employees, excluding the Constitutional Officers. The second reason for the increase is due to the state mandated salary increases of 5 percent for each four-year term completed by a Constitutional Officer.
Commission Chairman Maurice Raines is very proud of the work the board has done to complete the budget.
“I commend the Board of Commissioners for all of their hard work on the 2013 budget they have done a great job,” said Raines. “I am also very glad to see we were able to reward county employees for all of their hard work and due diligence because they deserve it. And last, but not least, I am very proud of the fact that this is the fourth year in a row that we will have prepared the budget before the end of the calendar year.”
