Upson-Lee High School held a Winter/Spring Sports Banquet on Monday night, where awards were handed out to athletes from several different sports.


Highlighting the evening was the presentation to the Upson-Lee Rifle Team, which received awards for winning the Navy JROTC National Championship. The Knights also finished as the State Runners-Up in GHSA competition, with Rosemary Kramer being named Co-Captain of the GHSA All-State Team. All four girls who made up the precision rifle team - Kramer, Miranda Baxley, Shannon Tyssen and Alyssa Hansen - will be back next year.


The Lady Knights basketball team handed out a Captain award to Jaleesa Gibson, while Kiashona Carter was named Third Team All-Region by the Region 4 basketball coaches. Carter averaged nearly 14 points per game this season for the Lady Knights, and eclipsed the 500 point milestone back in December.


Coach Darrell Lockhart will have nearly every member of his varsity basketball team back next season, including sophomore O’Qualon Harris who was named Third Team All-Region by the Region 4 basketball coaches. Harris led the Knights in scoring in the 2013-14 season.


The Knights had two members of their wrestling team earn All-Region honors. Senior Jacob Gross was named to the All-Region Team by the Region 4 coaches after winning the 195-pound weight division. Sophomore Bo Cummings was also named to the All-Region Team by the Region wrestling coaches for winning the 170-pound weight class.


Three members of the Knights baseball team earned All-Region honors. Freshman Kalen Puckett was named First Team All-Region as a pitcher by the Region 4 coaches. Puckett finished with 53 innings pitched and an ERA of 1.59. Puckett struck out 40 batters while only allowing 19 walks. Senior Justin Shaw was named Second Team All-Region as a pitcher by the Region 4 coaches, throwing 28 innings and posting an ERA of 0.75. Senior Matt Crews was named All-Region Honorable Mention by the Region 4 coaches as a third baseman, finishing with a season’s batting average of .325.


The Lady Knights soccer team finished with six members of their squad earning All-Region honors. Senior Haylie Zolman and sophomore Jordie Rogers were each named All-Region Honorable Mention, while Senior Hannah Baucom and sophomore Brittany Cunningham were each named Second Team All-Region by the Region 4 coaches. Senior Haley Baucom and freshman Kelcey Odums were both named First Team All-Region, while Odums also won the Region 4 Forward of the Year Award.


The Knights soccer team also had six players earn All-Region honors. Senior Will Eubanks and freshman Michael Smith each were named All-Region Honorable Mention. The Knights had three players, Turner Price, Cole Winters, and Caleb Zolman, all named Second Team All-Region by the Region 4 coaches. Upson-Lee juniors Dylan Marshall and Jake Sayer were each named First Team All-Region by the Region 4 coaches, while Marshall also won the Region 4 Forward of the Year Award.


Seniors Bo Hendrix and Andrew Fletcher were each recognized for the Knights tennis team, while Rachel Bridges received a Captains Award.


The Knights golf team was also recognized, with Bo Davison taking home the Senior Award. On the day of the banquet, freshman Wil Hernandez and junior Justin Gilbert were each playing in the State Golf Tournament.
