The Upson-Lee Middle School baseball team moved their 2014 season record to 3-1 after an exciting come from behind victory against Clifton Ridge. Josh Fordham scored three runs in the game, with his third coming on an error by the Cougars’ second baseman to give the Knights a 7-6 victory, that featured seven lead changes.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning, when the Cougars scored two runs on two hits to take a 2-0 lead. Cotton Phillips started for the Knights, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up six hits and four runs, of which two were earned, a walk, and striking out two batters.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Knights added a run, to cut the Cougars’ lead to 2-1. Landon Fowler was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off, followed by Josh Fordham reaching on a fielding error. Trace Park loaded the bases with the first of his two hits in the game, followed by a ground ball to shortstop by Tanner Crews which drove home Fordham for the Knights’ first run of the game.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Noah Turner and Barron Gulley led the inning off with back-to-back walks, and after a wild pitch both runners advanced to third and second base respectively. Trevor Crews promptly followed with a solid base hit scoring Turner, and knotting the game up 2-2. Josh Fordham gave the Knights a 3-2 lead with a RBI ground ball to second base later in the inning.

However, Clifton Ridge answered the Knights once again in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs on two hits.
