In the first half of the Lady Knights game with the Lady Bears from Griffin, Upson-Lee nearly recorded more turnovers than points scored. The Lady Knights scored 19 points in the first half of their game on Friday night, and turned the ball over 15 times.
However, the Lady Knights did play much better on the defensive side of the ball, holding Griffin to only 28 points in the first half, keeping the Lady Knights in the game. After trailing 11-8 in the first quarter, it was the second quarter where the Lady Knights had their turnover troubles. The Lady Bears played a tough man-to-man defense in the second quarter, in which they out scored the Lady Knights 17-11.
At halftime, the Lady Knights trailed 28-19 after trailing by just three points at the end of the first quarter.
In the second half of the game, both teams struggled offensively. Upson-Lee’s trio of Kjha Kendall, Keondra Ausbrooks, and Jaleesa Gibson kept the Lady Bears post players in check. In the first half of the game, it was Griffin’s ability to get the ball into the post which gave the Lady Knights fits.
The Lady Knights defense gave Upson-Lee a chance to get back into the game, but the Lady Knights also struggled offensively from the floor in the third quarter. The Lady Knights held the Lady Bears to just 10 points in the third quarter, but Upson-Lee only scored seven points themselves in the third quarter.
As the two teams headed to the fourth quarter, Griffin led the Lady Knights by a 38-26 score. The fourth quarter was the best offensive quarter for the Lady Knights, as they scored 18 points, including six points in the quarter from LaQuasha Hutcherson. The Lady Knights outscored Griffin 18-15 in the fourth quarter, but the lead proved to much to overcome for Upson-Lee, falling by a 53-44 score.
Keera McMillion led the Lady Knights with 11 points, while grabbing eight rebounds. Kiashona Carter reached double figures with 10 points, LaQuasha Hutcherson added nine points, Kyjha Kendall scored six points, Keondra Ausbrooks tallied four points, while Alexus Holston and Kia Willis each chipped in with two points.
The Lady Knights will host the Riverdale tonight for Senior Night. In their last contest, the Lady Knights lost by a 35-29 score to Riverdale. Tip off is slated for 6 p.m.
