Upson County Sheriff Dan Kilgore released the following statement on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013:

On Friday, December 20, 2013 at approximately 11:25 p.m. deputies from the Upson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence at 386 Bonds Road in northern Upson County in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival deputies found two male juveniles, age 14 and 15, who had been shot with birdshot from a shotgun.

It was determined that four male juveniles were at a sleepover and decided to play a game called “Ding - Dong - Ditch” – where they would ring a doorbell or knock on a door and hide from the people answering the door.

The two males who were shot went to 386 Bonds Road, which is the residence of Raymond Nordan, 48, and his son, Garrett Nordan, 21. They rang the door bell and ran away. No one came to the door as the doorbell was out of order.

The two males then went back to the residence a second time and knocked on the north side of the residence. The two other juveniles did not approach the residence but watched while hiding on the adjoining property. The four juveniles observed the lights to the residence come on. The juveniles then ran to the property line and laid down in the darkness.

The juveniles stated they observed Garrett Nordan and Raymond Nordan exiting the back door. Garrett Nordan also had a Mossberg 12 gauge shot gun equipped with a flashlight and Raymond Nordan had a .38 special pistol and a hand held flashlight.

The juveniles began to run and both Nordans fired their weapons, 2 rounds each in the direction of the fleeing juveniles. The bird shot from the shot gun struck the fifteen year old on his left leg and struck the fourteen year old the arm, back and lower right leg. The rounds from the .38 pistol did not strike the juveniles.

The 14-year-old was treated for the gunshot wound at Upson Regional and released. The 15-year-old did not require medical treatment for his wounds.

The four juveniles will be charged with Criminal Trespass.

Raymond and Garrett Nordan will be charged with Reckless Conduct.
