Thomaston Police Chief Dan Greathouse and Thomaston Mayor Hays Arnold issued the following press release on Tuesday, July 8, 2014:
On Monday, July 7, 2014, City of Thomaston Mayor Hays Arnold received a letter from an organized group of citizens calling itself the Thomaston Improvement Association, P.O. Box 371, Thomaston, GA 30286, requesting that he and Chief of Police Dan Greathouse attend a meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s AME Church to discuss allegations regarding Thomaston Police Officer Phillip Tobin.
In response, Chief Greathouse advises the public that he has requested the GBI to investigate two recent incidents involving Officer Tobin. These GBI investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, Chief Greathouse ordered an internal review/investigation that currently is being conducted by the Thomaston Police Department. In a Thomaston Police Press Release dated June 24, 2014, Chief Greathouse invited the public to express any concerns about Officer Tobin in writing through the Department’s complaint procedures. Each complaint filed with the Department will be investigated.
The Mayor and Chief feel that it would be improper to discuss the GBI investigations or the internal investigations until the investigations are complete. Once all the investigations are closed, Chief Greathouse will agree to meet with a group of community leaders and will request the meeting be arranged through the Department of Justice, Community Affairs Division.
