A lightning strike during a thunderstorm Monday evening is believed to be the cause of a fire that totally destroyed a family’s home. The Thomaston Fire Department and a number of Upson County volunteer fire departments responded to the fire call at 724 Trice Cemetery Road in Thomaston.

Danny and Carly Shumate and their family were away from the house at the time of the storm, and arrived back to find it fully engulfed in flames. They lost everything. Family and friends are requesting help in providing clothing and other essentials for them. Gift cards to WalMart and places to eat are a good way to donate.

For more information, contact Carly’s aunt, Georgette Holloway at 706-975-6918.

For donations in Thomaston the dropoff location is at 2053 Hannahs Mill Rd.

The Griffin dropoff location for donations is 1344 Meriwether St.

Caitlin: 14 Years old. Shirts (L), Pants (14,) Shoes(9-10)
