Troopers responded to a one-car wreck at the intersection of West Point Road and Beaumont Lane where a driver swerved into a ditch and overturned.

According to the trooper on scene, the call came in approximately 10:30 a.m. where a 73-year-old woman traveling northbound on West Point Road crossed the center lane driving into a driveway, a mailbox and a stop sign and street sign before hitting a ditch and rolling over.

Witnesses said they saw the woman swerving earlier on the road and in a manner consistent with texting and driving according to the trooper. However, he reported he thinks this is a result of a medical issue.

The driver reportedly felt short of breath which caused her to become faint. She may have been reaching for her inhaler when she crashed he said.

No injuries were reported except for shortness of breath. She was taken to Lanier Medical Center in Valley for a follow-up exam.
