Silvertown Soup Kitchen received a Dart Foundation Grant in the amount of $2,000 to assist in serving meals to the needy. This is the first time Dart has given Silvertown Soup Kitchen a grant.

Dart Foundation began giving grant money to different organizations since 1984. This number is significant because on all of its checks it has check number 1984, which is the year Dart Foundation was founded. This is the first year Thomaston has been included in the recipient area to receive grant money from this organization.

Monica Walker did the presentation for this grant with Tammy Shock and Shirley Russell. Other volunteer members of the Silvertown Soup Kitchen and the Dart Foundation Committee Members were present were Monica Walker, Dennis Strom, LaRae McGuirk, Wendy Fordham, Gwen Foster, and Eric Walker.

Karen Smith, the Director of Human Resource Management and John Ross, plant manager were also present. The committee members sat down and enjoyed lunch with the kitchen staff to see firsthand what they actually do at each meal.

Silvertown Soup Kitchen and Silvertown Baptist Church thank Shirley Russell for researching and initiating the application with her letter of request for aid for kitchen. Ms. Russell sent letters to local churches in the community asking for donations and proceeded with initiating the Dart application for aid. This sparked Ms. Shock along with Ms. Russell to apply to Dart Foundation and the grant came through.

Ms. Shock would like to express thanks to Dart Foundation, the church, volunteers of the kitchen, and the community for their support and patience with the meals as they are planned and served on Tuesday and Thursday by volunteers.
