The Upson Lee NJROTC GHSA Rifle Team competed in the Georgia State Championship this weekend at Ft. Benning and finished in 2nd Place, allowing them to be recognized as the Runner-Up for the State Championship. The team competed against 13 other teams throughout the state and shot a total team score of 1153 out of 1200 points, only falling short of Allatoona High School by 9 points, shooting an 1162. Rosemary Kramer was also selected for the Georgia All-State Rifle Team, which consists of the 10 best shooters in the state with the highest overall averages from the regular season. Coach Chuck Meyerriecks said he is extremely proud of this team’s accomplishments this year, and he can’t wait for next year, as there are no seniors on this year’s team. “We could not have asked for a better season, winning the Navy National Championship and being the State Runner-Up,” Meyerriecks said. “Please congratulate these girls when you see them. “ Left to right are Coach Chuck Meyerriecks, Shannon Tyssen, Miranda Baxley, Alyssa Hanson, and Rosemary Kramer.
