Upson County’s six volunteer fire departments were surprise recipients of a $6,000.25 check from Ten Cate at the Smoke On The Water Festival last Saturday at Bickley’s Lake. All of Ten Cate’s T-shirts sales and Braves ticket sales generated the money, and they turned around and donated the entire amount to the volunteer firefighters. Present for the check presentation were (left to right) Katie Lee of Yatesville VFD, Chief Andy Hay of Northside VFD, Captain Ryan Carroll of Lincoln Park VFD, Chief Richard Hickmon of Thurston VFD, Chief Nicky Hamby of Rock Hill VFD, and Bruce Bagwell of Ten Cate. Not pictured is a representative of Salem VFD. In addition to the donation from Ten Cate, the volunteer fire departments will also receive a donation from Smoke On The Water. For the past six years, Smoke On The Water has donated more than $95,000 to the departments, and this year’s festival is expected to push that total to more than $100,000. That check presentation will be made later this year. For more photos of Smoke On The Water, see Page 3A.
