On Friday, March 14, 2014 Upson-Lee High School Principal Tracy Caldwell announced that Stephen Boyd has been selected as the new ULHS Athletic Director. Left to right in the photo are Stephen Boyd and Tracey Caldwell. Boyd holds a Specialist degree in Grades 6-12 Social Studies from Columbus State University and teaches AP American Government, American Government, and Psychology at the high school. He was named the 2013 STAR Teacher by 2013 STAR Student Ranjit Singh, and this year was named the 2013 ULHS Teacher of the Year by his peers. He currently is head coach of the Cross Country Team and the JV Girls Soccer Team. The Boys Cross Country Team won 2013 4AAAA Region Championship. He has previously coached both girls and boys basketball. Boyd, who came to the Thomaston-Upson School System in 2004, has taught at Upson-Lee Middle School and Upson-Lee High School. He has also served two tours of duty in Iraq with the Georgia National Guard during his tenure with the Thomaston-Upson School System, and is the recipient of the Purple Heart. “I am very excited about this opportunity and great challenge,” Boyd stated. “I look forward to serving our school, students, parents, and the community as the Upson-Lee High School Athletic Director.”
