Mark your calendars now for our annual chitlin’ and chili festivals
Mark your calendars now for the last Saturday in October (Oct. 26) as one long-time festival and one relatively new festival both happen that day.’
The 31st Annual Chitlin’ Hoedown takes place in Yatesville from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will be a one day event this year, with plenty of delicious fried and grilled chitlins to go around. If your food tastes run in other directions, there will also be BBQ chicken and other food items for sale, as well as arts and crafts booths. Musical entertainment will be provided by Sylvia Winters, The Watkins Family, Doug Melton, The Vega Boys, Due South, and The Junkshun. There will also be the annual Yatesville Chitlin’ Hoedown parade that afternoon.
There is no admission charge. Arts and crafts booths open at 10 a.m., food will be served starting at 11 a.m., entertainment will be provided throughout the day, and the parade starts at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy this big, one day event filled with arts and crafts, entertainment, good food, and good folks.
The 3rd Annual Smoke On The Water Chili Cook-Off takes place at Bickley’s Lake from 10 a.m. until, with plenty of good chili to sample and music to listen and dance to. It is not too late to enter the Chili Cook-Off. It costs just $25 to register, and registration includes two passes to the event. There will also be a Salsa competition, with registration for it being $10. Visitors can help in the judging for $1 a sample.
Music throughout the day will be provided by Big Mike and the Booty Papas, Fever Dog featuring Nash Austin, and 16 Ton. There will be a Corn-Hole Tournament with a $300 cash prize, so get there early to register your team. There will also be free hay rides and inflatables for the kids.
Admission is just $10, and kids 10 and under get in free. Camping will also be available. As with the Smoke On The Water Barbecue Festival in the spring, proceeds from the Smoke On The Water Chili Cook-Off will benefit the volunteer fire departments in Upson County.
