Thursday, August 22, 2013, is the date for the 86th Anniversary Celebration Show at the historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Thomaston. Starting at 7 p.m., the evening will be full of special movie memories from the past 86 years. There will be clips from some of your favorite films, comments from local personalities, and live song and dance performances.
The theme of this anniversary show is “I Want to Live!”, a cry for help to move The Ritz into the digital age and therefore remain open as 35mm film, the standard for the past 100 years, comes to an end. It is based on the original song, “I Want to Live,” by Bob Berkey, written especially for The Ritz and its Digital Challenge.
Admission to the 86th Anniversary Celebration Show will be just $10, and thanks to several local sponsors, all the admission income will go directly to the Digital Projection Fund. Support of events at The Ritz this month and your donation/ticket price will go twice as far, as an out-of-town friend of The Ritz has offered to double the total collected in August (including this Anniversary Show) up to $10,000.
Tickets for the Anniversary Show are on sale in advance at The Ritz any evening, or at the door on August 22. The doors will open at 6:15 p.m.
