No information on the LOST negotiations between Upson County and the City of Thomaston was made public during a called Board of Commission meeting held on Friday, August 16. Chairman Rusty Blackston noted the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the joint projects and LOST agreement between the county and the city when it began at 8 a.m., however the board entered into Executive Session before any matters were discussed, citing potential litigation as the reason for Executive Session. After an hour and fifteen minute long closed session, they re-entered open session where Blackston made the following statement.
“All we will say at this time is we will be meeting with the City of Thomaston Tuesday night and we will give you the information when we think we have reached an agreement.”
No other business came before the board and the meeting was adjourned. A special called joint meeting with the Thomaston City Council will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Archives’ basement meeting room. Topic of the meeting will be the discussion and approval of the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) and Service Delivery Agreement. The meeting is open to the public.
