Basketball tips off at the Civic Center

The Thomaston-Upson County Civic Center opened up the 2014 basketball season. Here is a look at some of the action from the hardwood:

10 & Under Girls-

Dream: 15

Sparks: 5

Tyla Zellner single-handily took care of business of the Sparks for the Dream in their 15-5 victory. Zellner scored eight of the Dream’s 15 points. Tranese Crafter added five points and Ty’Tionna Dubignon chipped in with two points in the season opening victory.

Ky’Khia Brown and Jasmine Danzley each scored two points for the Sparks, while Aziyah Perry added a single point in the loss.

Storm: 28

Sun: 8

It was the Jakhia and Jakera show for the Storm on Saturday, as they defeated the Sun by a 28-8 score. Jakhia Parker and Jakera Ellerbee each blistered the nets for 12 points in the game. Akeen Chaney and Hailey Schoppe chipped in with two points each in the victory.

Brooke Grossman led the way for the Sun with three points. Courtney Blassingame and Kahmya Sullivan each tallied two points, while A’Niaya Smith added one point for the Sun.

12 & Under Girls-

Stars: 33

Comets: 4

The Comets were no match for Alonzea Montgomery and the Sparks on Saturday. Montgomery lit up the Comets for a game high 17 points. Norteciondra Traylor added seven points in the victory,while Tykeria Geiger tallied five points. Zykeria Geiger and D’Kaija Fagan each scored two points in the victory.

Maliyah Howell and Caitlan Dumas each tallied two points for the Comets in the game.

14 & Under Boys-

Nets: 36 OT

Heat: 29

The Nets overcame a double digit deficit in the second half to force overtime against the Heat, and then outscored the Heat 7-0 in overtime to earn a 36-29 victory. Branterick Alexander led the way for the Nets with 15 points, including scoring eight points in the fourth quarter and overtime period.

Jaqualeon Harris finished with six points for the Nets, while Caleb Raines added five points. Trey Kelly and Jaylan Harris each tallied three points, and Brady Puckett and Ty Rechtorovic each scored two points in the victory.

Basil Clemons paced the Heat with 11 points in the game. Walter Peeler added eight points, while Dakarriyan Searcy tallied six points. D’Narta Searcy added two points for the Heat in the loss.

Knicks: 36 OT

Suns: 32

The Knicks outscored the Suns 4-0 in overtime to seal a 36-32 victory. Charkevius Walker blistered the nets for 21 points to lead the way for the Knicks. Christian Goodwin tallied six points and Omarion Dubignon finished with five points. My’Sarrious Jackson added four points for the Knicks in the victory.

Javeon walker paced the Suns balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Kedrick Atwater tallied six points, Montavious Russell netted five points, Aumonn Sullivan finished with four points, while Ya’Tahddius Webb scored three points. Quinton Walden scored two points, and Jaylen Brice chipped in with one point in the defeat.
