Scappers and Hooks win Fall Ball Championships

The Thomaston-Upson Recreational Department held two of their Fall Baseball League Championship Games last week. In the 8 & under Championship Game the Scrappers faced off with the Muckdogs, and in the 10 & under Championship Game the Hooks took on the Muckdogs. Here are recaps from the championship action:

(8 & Under Championship Game)

Scrappers: 15

Muckdogs: 4

The Scrappers took care of the Muckdogs in just three innings in the 8 & Under Championship Game. The Scrappers, led by Tyler Pasley’s 4 for 4 performance, scored four runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning, and six runs in the third inning on their way to a 15-4 victory.

Pasley, Ronnie Hughes, Christopher Callahan, and Campbell Hinson each tallied hits and scored runs in the first inning. Kaden Goins scored the only run for the Muckdogs in their half of the first inning. Goins came home to score on a base hit by Braden Williams.

In the second inning, the Scrappers added to their lead with five more runs. Sam Gillespie led off the inning with a solid double, followed by doubles from Pasley, Callahan, Hinson, Zach Nada, and Landon Bunn. The Scrappers scored five runs on six hits in the inning, all doubles.

The Muckdogs scored three runs in the third inning as Goins, Walker Stevens, and Braden Williams each crossed the plate. However, it was the Scrappers who added six runs in the half of the third inning, sealing their 15-4 victory.

Tyler Pasley paced the Scrappers with four hits and three runs scored. Chris Callahan and Campbell Hinson each tallied three hits and three runs scored, while London Bunn added three hits and one run. Ronnie Hughes finished the game with two hits and two runs scored, Kevin Wilson tallied two hits, and Ashton Lee chipped in with one hit in the victory. Bunn, who finished with three hits, was just a home run shy of the cycle.

Braden Williams led the Muckdogs with three hits and a run scored, while Kalen Goins added two hits and two runs scored. Walker Stevens finished with two hits and a run scored, Trey Webb added two hits, while Tommy Williams chipped in with a single in defeat.

(10 & Under Championship Game)

Hooks: 5

Muckdogs: 3

The Muckdogs faced off with the Hooks in the 10 & Under Championship Game at the Civic Center last Tuesday night. In the bitter cold, it was the Muckdogs who tallied 5 hits compared to the Hooks’ two hits, but the Hooks walked 10 times on their way to a 5-3 victory.

After three straight walks in the first inning, the Hooks loaded the bases. One run would come home to score on a fourth walk, while Brenton Cook drove home a run with a ground ball to second base. Evan Stiner also drove home a run with a fielder’s choice, giving the Hooks a 3-0 lead after one inning.

In the second inning, Ethan Sulewski led off with yet another walk, and later came home to score on a base hit from Caleb Sanders. It was Sanders who tallied the only two hits in the game for the Hooks.

In the third inning the Muckdogs started to get something going with a couple of extra base hits from Kinlee Hutchins and Hudson Collins. Ross Parker, who reached on an error, came home to score the Muckdogs’ first run of the game. After a solid double, Hutchins came home to score on a double by Hudson, as the Muckdogs trailed 4-2.

The Hooks added another run in the fifth inning, as they went on to defeat the Muckdogs by a 5-3 score.

Caleb Sanders led the way for the Hooks, tallying the Hooks’ only two hits of the game, a run scored, and a RBI. Landon Howard, Ben Youngblood, Ethan Sulewski, and Kolby Butler each scored runs in the game, while Brenton Cook added a RBI in the victory.

Ross Parker paced the Muckdogs with two hits and two runs scored. Hudson Collins added a triple, while Kinlee Hutchins finished with a double and a run scored, while Murray Deen chipped in with a hit in the loss.
