In recognition of the retired educators throughout the state of Georgia, Governor Nathan Deal has proclaimed Sunday, November 3, 2013 to be Retired Educators Day in Georgia. The Upson County Board of Commissioners has also signed a proclamation making the designation for Upson County. The proclamation states there are more than 103,000 retired educators throughout the state with 23,000 plus serving as members of the Georgia Retired Educators Association. It continues stating these individuals donate thousands of hours of volunteer service and make invaluable contributions to the welfare of their respective communities across the state and it appropriate that a day be designated for citizens to express their appreciation for the contributions these teachers have made and continue to make for the betterment of human lives and for society.
