The CrossPointe Cavaliers traveled to Sharpsburg Friday to face the Heritage Crusaders and managed to bring home another win. CCA was up for the fight after being eliminated from the play-offs in last year’s second round by the Crusaders. CrossPointe scored early in the first quarter and never lost their lead. At the half, the score stood at 12-0. In the third quarter, the Cavaliers scored two more TD’s, bringing the score to 24-0 and allowing many of the young Cavaliers to get playing time. Heritage scored twice in the fourth, bringing the final score to 24-12.
The solid Cavalier defense was led by seniors Wesley Barron, who had a career high 9 tackles and 2 assists, and Ethan Blount, who had 2 sacks, a tackle for a loss, 6 tackles and 4 assists, sophomore Cody Stahl, who had 1 sack, a tackle for a loss, 7 tackles and 2 assists, and junior Steven Barron, who had 4 tackles in the backfield, 4 more tackles, and 2 assists. Noteworthy performances were also turned in by seniors Tim Gillespie and Matthew Davis, who teamed up to force and recover a fumble, respectively.
Offensively, the Cavaliers were led by senior Matthew Bollinger, who had 160 yards of total offense and broke free for 2 long TD runs, one for 49 yards and another for 58 yards. The balance of CCA’s 334 offensive yards were contributed pretty equally by senior Asa Davis (68 yards), sophomore quarterback Tate VanEgmond on 66 yards of completions and 1 TD to Blount, and 40 yards and 1 TD rushing for Steven Barron.
CrossPointe will play their second home game this Friday against Lafayette out of LaGrange. Toe meets leather at 7:30 p.m.
