Upson County is place to be Saturday

If you cannot find somewhere to go or something to do in Upson County this Saturday, you’re not trying very hard. From the dedication of a football field to a beloved coach to the annual fund raiser for a cancer support group, Upson County is the place to be this Saturday. Here is a synopsis of what is going on.


Dedication


The newly renovated football field on South Bethel Street, behind the Government Complex, will be named and dedicated in honor of Coach James Dawkins at 9 a.m. For 35 years, Coach Dawkins was a mainstay in Upson County sports and recreation.


Drive 4UR Community


Help support ‘Families Feeding Families’ by test driving a new Ford at Thomaston Ford from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For every test drive, Thomaston Ford and Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to ‘Families Feeding Families of Middle Georgia.’


Free Movies


The Thomaston-Upson County School System will have a ‘Free Movie Day’ at the new Fine Arts Center, located on the campus of Upson-Lee High School. Different movies will be shown at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. Call the Fine Arts Center Box Office at 706-646-9447 for movie information.


Boobie Ball


Boobie Ball 2013 will be held from 5 p.m. until midnight at Bickley’s Lake. The Boobie Ball is the chief fund raiser for SUPPORT, a non-profit group which provides support to Upson County cancer patients and their families. Come enjoy music, games, raffles, food and drink. Tickets are $15, and you are invited to bring chairs and coolers (no glass, please).


Ron Anglin


Professional juggler, clown, unicyclist and rapper Ron Anglin will perform a free show at the Greatest Generation Memorial Park in Thomaston starting at 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and come enjoy the show.
